When you first walk through the front doors of The Renaissance, you are instantly aware that you are in some place special. To your right is a small alcove with ornate chairs and couch, and on the wall behind the couch, hangs a huge mirror carried by an equally large frame making the images within it seem even larger.

If you take a moment to sit down and look through, you will see a most beautiful dining room encased in glass and allowing you to see through to the gardens behind. It is a very warm spot to observe the community you are about to enter.

Turning to your view to the left and looking across the foyer, you see the communication centre of this Mecca of lifestyle. The whole foyer is beautifully ordained in the rich colours of fall, giving the entire area warmth that makes everything work.

It is this administration area, in any independent living property that keys the activities and coordinates services. Like any luxury hotel, service is a key to a full house and happy customers, The Renaissance is both.

Nicole Severin is the leasing manager who toured me about the property. We began by ascending the stairs from the foyer to the second level. At the top, we turned back to look at the dining room from above, which shows even more elegantly than from the main floor and the view out to the gardens is much more dramatic.

If you have family and friends and would like a private dining room, they have that too.  As you can see from the picture, it too is very ornate and the colours reflect the attention to detail paid by the company in its development. As for the dining experience itself, it's awesome in both taste and service, completely befitting a retirement community at its best.

The second floor simply continues the theme. It is like a candy store of retirement living with its billiard room, theatre, library, TV room and enumerable other services and exercise programs.

The apartments themselves maintain the attention to detail, making each more than just comfortable and spacious. For those currently living a condo lifestyle, it is not a big transition, but for someone with a 4,500 sq ft house on a corner lot, it may be more challenging. However, the people who live here are very happy with the change.

Overall, it is completely reflective of the lifestyle I so often speak about. It is a relaxing, pleasant and agreeable place full of outgoing and gregarious people. It is a place to be engaged and stimulated by one's peers.

So the next time you’re out for a drive in Langley, you should stop at The Renaissance. See what the future can hold for you.
