Happy Ground Hog Day!
Legend has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day he’ll flee to his burrow, meaning six more weeks of winter, and if there is no shadow, spring is just around the corner. Though scientific studies show groundhogs are accurate only 37 per cent of the time, it’s a fun tradition and many Canadians anticipate word of the groundhog’s ‘prediction’, hoping for the good news that winter is almost over.
Two out of three of Canada’s famous groundhogs are calling for an early spring. Ontario’s Wiarton Willie and Nova Scotia’s rodent Shubenacadie Sam didn’t see their shadows when they emerged on Thursday morning. But Manitoba’s lesser known forecaster, Winnipeg Willow, is siding with Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil, who is calling for six more weeks of winter. Here’s hoping Willie and Sam are correct!

At 11 am Friday, November 11th, please stop and take a moment to honour the men and women who have risked or lost their lives for our freedom. We remember the sacrifices made by those that fought in the major wars of the last century and those who continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. Ceremonies are held throughout Metro Vancouver on Friday morning. The freedom we have in Canada, that most of us take for granted, is ours due to the people we honour today. Remember.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

Took a stroll with my three favourite girls along the fabulous West Richmond Dyke Trail this weekend. Lots of families, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists enjoying the amazing November sunshine! The West Dyke Trail is a scenic 5.5 km path along the waterfront from the Northwest Terra Nova parkland to Garry Point Park in Steveston. Enjoyed a panoramic view of the mountains, the ocean, the Sturgeon Banks, the Gulf Islands and the numerous species of birds. There’s even a cattle crossing near Steveston!

Took in the fun and festivities this weekend for a bit of trick or treating in Steveston Village. Stevestson Merchants Association hosted a Scarecrow Crawl, featuring an array of scarecrows throughout the Village, at the storefront entrances. Children of all ages were dressed up and collecting treats on Saturday. Steveston is a year round destination for family-friendly events. Mark your calendar for the upcoming Christmas in Steveston Village on December 3rd, featuring the Festival of Trees and Christmas at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.

This week, Jamie and I took our new daughter to pick out her first pumpkin. We were three of the thousands that visit Richmond Country Farms every year to take in the fun and music at their Pumpkin Patch. We rode the hay wagon, joined in the sing along, chose our pumpkin, and rode back to the grandstand where we were then entertained by Polly Pumpkin and Korny Korn. Stopped on our way out to pick up some fantastic produce from Country Farms Farmgate Market. Located 12900 Steveston Highway . Make sure to dress warmly and make sure everyone wears their rubber boots; even in the sunshine, it’s a muddy place!
