May 19th, outdoor pools and  concessions are officially open and park rangers and beach lifeguards are on duty.  The heated seaside outdoor pools at New Brighton Park, Second Beach in Stanley Park, and  Kitsilano Beach Park.  Lifeguards begin their summer duties at designated beaches from Spanish Bank West and stretching all the way around English Bay to Third Beach in Stanley Park.  Trout Lake is the only freshwater, lifeguarded beach in Vancouver and is located in John Hendry Park.

On Sunday come to the Roundhouse Turntable Plaza opening!   Official ceremony to celebrate the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation’s new outdoor public  and community performance space.  May 20 from noon – 4pm.  Official ceremony 1:00 pm.  Located at Davie St. and Pacific Blvd in Vancouver’s Yaletown. 

A lower mainland tradition, the 66^th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo and 123^rd Annual Country Fair!  One of the largest rodeos in Canada and the largest running fair in BC for the May long weekend, this extravaganza features the Fraser Valley’s largest midway and loads of family entertainment.     May 18-21. 

Take in a Night Market. Choose from Vancouver’s Chinatown  at 100 and 200 Keefer Street,  or  Richmond’s Night Market  , located at No 3 Rd and River Road, just a block from the Bridgeport Canada Line Station.  Beginning May 18th.

2) The Richmond Night Market returns for 2012 with a brand new waterfront location located at 8351 River Road in Richmond. The Night Market runs May 18 to Oct. 8 on Friday and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The market boasts great food, great deals, a fantastic atmosphere and fun for the whole family. There will be a variety of vendors including crafts, merchandise, food and desserts plus carnival rides and a children’s amusement zone. 3) The 67th annual Steveston Salmon Festival takes place July 1 and everyone is invited to celebrate Canada’s biggest little birthday party. This year’s theme is Me to We – The Power of Youth! With a pancake breakfast, kids bike parade, a Canada Day Parade, Japanese cultural displays, an art show, children’s festival, carnival rides, a salmon barbeque, road hockey, a youth rock fest and a great entertainment line-up this is an event not to be missed.

In celebration of Doors Open Richmond and Asian Heritage Month, live entertainment and refreshments will be held at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate on Saturday May 5th from 6:30pm – 9pm. 

There’s also a Walk Richmond Tour Saturday at 10am that will take you around Steveston to visit a few venues participating in Doors Open Richmond.   Meet at the Britannia Shipyards Historic Site.
