It’s Snow Time in Metro Vancouver!

MetroVancouver’s first measurable snow fall of 2012 occurred this past weekend and the outlook for this week is for more snow, with meteorologists forecasting three weather systems moving into BC. Look for snowfall Monday, Wednesday and then Thursday or Friday.
People on the southwest coast of BC have a special relationship with the white stuff, as we experience only a day or two of snow at a time and rarely get the opportunity to enjoy a walk in a winter wonderland before it is washed away by the rains within hours.
The snowiest year on record at Vancouver International Airport was 1971, which received a total of 242.6 cm (95.5 in), and the greatest snow depth reported was 61 cm (24 in) on January 15 of that year. Nothing close to that is predicted for this week but maybe enough to cause havoc on our roads and excitement and some rare tobogganing for the young and young at heart!
Environment Canada has ranked Vancouver 3rd place under the category “Lowest Snowfall” among 100 major Canadian Cities.
If you are snow-adverse and prefer to appreciate snow via fabulous mountain views, then locations such as Richmond, Vancouver, and South Delta are good places to call home!
